<image:title>Blog - I Need to Fix… Collection - Reminder: The first draft of anything is shit, according to Hemingway. It’s okay - good, even! - if your collection of things to fix is long. What’s important is that you note your edits so you can address them when the time is right.</image:title>
<image:caption>Character Updates: This is a good place to write down changes you made - or want to make - to a character, so that you have a reference to use while you edit the whole book. Nitika’s character needs significant work to be believable and to fit in with the world. I wrote that here so I can remember to fix all instances of her appearance in Call to Fire. Clarity: As you’re rereading your work, if something doesn’t seem clear to you, it won’t be clear to the reader, either. Use this collection to note unclear items that need your attention. Consistency: Consistently describing people or places is so important, and if you struggle with that, jotting down a note in your collection will help you make sure you maintain consistent descriptions during the editing process. [Check out the Location Spread for expanded info on consistently describing locations.] Spoilers: Most of this spread is covered up because there are so many spoilers. But I wanted to show at least some of things that need my attention, so you have a reference for what kinds of things might fit in this collection for your book.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Common Smells: Honestly, the Den is pretty rundown, musty, and unpleasant at the beginning of Call to Fire. Thea should do something about that. Common Tastes: I decided this wasn’t relevant for the Den, but it is relevant in other locations and during specific events. Other Features: I can’t tell you everything. Get Artistic: Welcome to the Den. This is the entrance through the catacombs that’s guarded by a cat with a magical touch. In the upper right of the left page, I included information about Haza, saint of the fortunate and lucky. Her associated symbol is the chalice. [It’s a desert city after all; you’re lucky to have a clean and overflowing cup.] Do you have to get artsy with your spread? No. It’s your journal. Do what you love. Did I forget to erase my pencil lines? Yes, yes I did.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Location Spread - Thea, Tobi, and the rest of these thieves get up to a lot of trouble in their base. The Den is located in the catacombs under Haza’s temple in Temple Row. It has no specific address.</image:title>
<image:caption>Entrances: I’ve noted the two access points for the Den here. One, a magical door guarded by a salt white cat. The other, a locked entrance from the sewers. Building Materials: The majority of the Den is cobbled stone with (sparse) wooden beam supports. Lighting: Torches and candles abound, but the Den is cross ventilated - as are all temples in Hadar. Who Lives Here: Most of the Den members call this place home, or used to. Rooms: This is a very large building that sprawls under Temple Haza. There are even rooms to spare, for reasons.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Character Spread - On the Right…</image:title>
<image:caption>Job: Thea is one of two characters who has this section in their spread. Her job does matter to the story; so does the other character’s. But everyone else does work that isn’t as critical, or isn’t seen as much in the story. Magic System: The magic in my world is *drumroll* not strictly elemental. Thea can call the wind and water. Other characters with different bloodlines and traits can call different types of magic. [Tobi for example is redacted and can call on influence and persuasion. Curious.] This section helps me track who can do what - or not. Weapon Proficiency: How does your character fight, if at all? All of my characters have different proficiencies, and I use this section to outline their preferred and “option B” fighting styles. Character Web: I love this section so much. It’s a visual web of how characters interact with each other and what their relationships are to each other from this character’s perspective. Thea knows that Lurin and Ilvana are an item, so their relationship is noted. For items that I know as the author, but Thea doesn’t know [or doesn’t know yet], the web doesn’t show the relationship.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Character Spread - On the Left…</image:title>
<image:caption>Name Meaning: All of the names and words in this story matter, a lot. For reasons. I need this section to help me keep track of why. Physical Description: I’ve gotten some feedback that early readers think Thea is an actual fox. She is not. She is a Kitsi, which is a nomadic race descended from fox spirits. Thea does have pointed ears and a tail, true. But she looks significantly more human than I think she’s being received. This section of the spread and I will be spending a lot of time together in revisions so I can make sure her description comes across correctly. Personality: Thea is so different than I am. She’s confident, quick on her feet, clever, and has morals that are questionable at best. This section helps me visualize how she would act because she approaches things differently than I would. Voice & Tone: In this section, I outlined how Thea speaks. How she sounds. What happens when she’s furious; she speaks in her mother tongue. I love this section the most because it keeps her voice from blending in with everyone else.</image:caption>

<image:title>About BuJo for Writers - Most importantly…</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m not here to tell you that you HAVE to Bullet Journal. I’m also not here to tell you HOW to Bullet Journal. But I am here to share what works for me. What helps me organize writing my high fantasy novel, Call to Fire, into obtainable, bite-size goals. What takes all the chaos in my brain and weaves it into an intricate story. FYI: I’m also here to help you un-stick your brain. If you’re having trouble organizing your story, a set of events, or a collection of details, tell me what you need. I bet I can come up with a spread that will help.</image:caption>

<image:title>About BuJo for Writers - Art degree? Optional.</image:title>
<image:caption>You’ve probably seen BuJo spreads online that are super sleek, really artistic, highly intricate, and just perfect. You know what else they are? Intimidating. Your writing journal is just that: yours. If you don’t want it to be super artistic and colorful and done up, that’s fine. If you do, also fine. No gatekeeping here. I like a mix of both, and I think different designs can serve different purposes. For a lot of my spreads, I’ll be doing two designs for you: Utilitarian & Artsy.</image:caption>

<image:title>About BuJo for Writers - “But that’s not BuJo!”</image:title>
<image:caption>There’s a lot of gatekeeping in the community on what does or doesn’t “count” as a Bullet Journal. If your spreads are too artistic, not BuJo. If you don’t use the bullet system from the book, not Bujo. If you blah blah blah, not BuJo. The point of BuJo, for me at least, is to use a system that works for my brain to organize all of the thoughts, ideas, anxieties, and goals I have. This is that system. It’s built on the core ideals of Bullet Journaling; rapid logging and collections. So I’m calling it BuJo, and I’m sharing it with you. I hope you enjoy BuJo for Writers.</image:caption>
